Maxine graduated high school in Wilson, NC and then attended Sacred Heart College in Belmont, NC for two years. She then attended and graduated from Wake Forest College in Wake Forest, NC. Maxine met her husband Delmar E. Bland at Wake Forest and the couple was married on January 26, 1946. Maxine taught at Draughon’s Business College while Del served in the Army and later while Del attended medical school at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. When Del Bland opened his medical practice in Winston-Salem, Maxine managed his office and raised their three children. Maxine loved to play bridge, argue politics, and visit her place at Myrtle Beach. When Dr. Bland passed away in 1979, Maxine went back to college at UNCG and studied Interior Design. She was full of life and always was good with a story and a good laugh. She believed in the importance of a good education and in always doing the right thing.
Maxine is survived by her sister Marilyn H. Stowers; by her two daughters, Kathryn (Minxy) Klawinski (Robert) and Lisa Finkelstein (Mark); by her son Michael David Bland (Geri); and by her six grandchildren Raleigh Klawinski, Roman Klawinski, Kate Finkelstein, Lily Finkelstein, Greg Bland and Jocelyn Bland Hendrickson.
Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Delmar Earl Bland; by her parents, Moses Westbrook Hudson and Sudie Jane Hudson; her grandson, Robert Mason Klawinski; her sisters, Merle H. Wannamaker and Hazel Livingston; and her brothers, Milton Wycliffe (Wick) Hudson and M.W. (Dub) Hudson, Jr.
The family will have a small private ceremony for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer research at the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
