He was born February 10, 1933 in Johnson City, TN to the late James T. Malcom and Nell (Oxidine) Malcom.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William “Bill” Malcom and Dewey Malcom.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marjorie C. Malcom; his children, Vickie (Malcom) Farley, Charles Edward Malcom, Jr., and Chris Malcom; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Charles served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1964. He was Food Service Manager of K&W Cafeteria in NC from 1965 to 1970, Marriott Corporation from 1970 to 1972 and Manager for Horn & Horn Cafeteria from 1973 to 1981, both in Baltimore, MD. He was employed as Court Reporter for the State of Maryland Workers Compensation Commission from 1982 until retiring in 1995.
Besides being a Marine, his passions were fishing and cooking. He loved taking his John Boat out and staying all day trying to catch the big one. He loved going to Bluegrass Festivals and in later years played bass guitar. Prior to joining the Marines he was a Golden Gloves boxing champ with many victories. He continued boxing after joining the Marines.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the Amedisys Hospice staff for the love and care they provided to Mr. Malcom over the last two months. Also, the incredible care from Yellow Butterfly Home Care. The kindness and care each of them gave to Mr. Malcom was so appreciated.
A private graveside service, with full Military Honors, will be held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 1:00PM.
