Beverly was born September 2, 1938 in Norfolk, VA, a daughter of Adolphus E. and M. Belle Hitchens.
She is preceded in death by her parents of Norfolk, VA, her sister, Eloise H. Sorokowsky and her husband Milton Sorokowski, and a niece, Mary Lynn Baker of Florida.
Beverly was married 54 years to her loving husband and high school sweetheart, Larry W. McClellan. She was a full time Mother for many years before work and retirement from Wake Forest School of Medicine after 31 years of employment.
While her life began in Norfolk, VA, she lived the last half of her life since 1974 in Clemmons, NC. She and Larry traveled to many interesting corners of the world including Alaska and both eastern and western Europe. Her favorite trips included Scotland and England. Travel, reading, her children and grandchildren were her passion. In her earlier years she was active in the Methodist Church; was an Honored Queen in the fraternal order of Jobs’ Daughters and head Majorette for the Norview High School marching band as a member of the class of 1957.
Beverly is survived by her husband Larry W. McClellan of Clemmons, NC; daughter, Karen M. Swan and son John T. Swan of Winston-Salem, NC; son, N. E. “Corky” McClellan and his wife M.S. “Chela” McClellan of Clemmons, NC and children, William Armstrong, Silviana Claire, and Olivia Belle; sister-in-law, Mary Joyce Williams and husband David of Richmond, VA; nephew David Marrs and wife Donna and daughter, Meena of Richmond, VA; nieces, Andrea Marrs and son McKye of Clemmons, NC, Christin Henderson and her husband Markell and sons, Mason and Miles of Charlottesville, VA; brother-in-law, Shelton Williams and son Aric of Virginia Beach, VA; niece, Diane Morra and children, Alisha, Tiffany, and Heather of Tampa, FL; and special friends, Bonnie Larkin of Gulf Shores, AL, Cindy Salley of Winston-Salem, NC, Horace and Joan York of Clemmons, NC, and George and Sylvia Sanchez of San Antonio, TX.
A memorial service to celebrate Beverly’s life will be at 3 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel in Clemmons. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
