A gathering of family & friends for Robert will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, Florida 33759. Army honors & Celebration of Life will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, Florida 33759. A reception will follow.
Robert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karren E. Britton, their son Shawn Britton and Daughter In-Law Tara Britton, Daughters Penny Buchanan of Arkansas, Carol Ingram and Son In-Law James Ingram of Alabama, Sisters Barbara Young of Florida and Ruth Phillips of Oklahoma.
He is also survived by many grandchildren; Matthew Britton, Jonathan Britton, Tony Pointer, Nichole DeWald, Andrea Buchanan, James DeWald, Dallas Britton and Cary Britton. In addition to many grandchildren, Robert had six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Robert served his country in the United States Army for over 20 years. He served as a mechanic, tank commander, driver, and chemical weapons specialist while being stationed in Alabama, Korea, and Germany.
Robert, or Rob or Bob had many hobbies. Most notably was his fascination with Chrysler Imperials, specifically the 1992 and 1993 year models. He was an avid coin and stamp collector. He also enjoyed collecting antique phones and record players. He loved going to the movie theater and watching all sorts of action, sci-fi, western, kids and family movies. Later in life he enjoyed watching baseball and doing puzzles.
Robert completed his GED while serving in the Army as well as earning a two-year degree in Real Estate.
Robert was a member of many clubs and organizations that shared his passions. He was a member of the Lakeland Cruisers Car Club, National Association of Retried Federal Employees, The American Legion and many other car and coin collecting associations.
