BARLOTTA, NICHOLAS ANTHONY, 86, of Viera, FL, went to be with his Lord on September 3, 2023. Nick was born on May 1, 1937, to Anthony Barlotta and Lyda (Britten) Barlotta in Belleville, NJ. After graduating Essex County Technical High School in 1955, Nick enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Kessler AFB in Mississippi. Nick was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal during his 8 years of service.
In May of 1963, Nick married the love of his life, Janice Conforth in Patterson, NJ. They had a loving and blessed marriage of 60 years.
Nick attended the Aeronautical Academy in Oklahoma. He worked as an air traffic controller at New York International Airport, which is now known as JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, Queens, New York. Later in 1975, he would continue his career at Tampa International Airport where he would retire after 23 years with the Federal Aviation Agency.
Nick returned to college and earned a degree from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL in Architectural Construction Technology in 1979. He later returned to Hillsborough Community College where he taught for 20 years as an Instructor of Construction.
After retirement from his second career, he and Janice spent summers in Blairsville, GA and winters in Vero Beach, FL. Nick was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach and was involved with the American Legion and The Elks. Nick was proud to belong to the Knights of Columbus where he earned the rank of Grand Knight and was a 3rd degree member. Nick enjoyed spending his time painting, woodworking, and playing bocce ball. He loved Star Trek, Star Wars, classical music and his dogs, Aussie and Baxter.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Sr. and Lyda (Britten) Barlotta, brothers, Joseph, Jerry, and Anthony Jr., and sister, Vita. He is survived by his wife, Janice, daughter, Joelle Boccabella (Louis) of Viera, FL, granddaughters, Marisa and Elise and sister, Theresa Benigno (Nicholas) of Franklin, NJ. He also has many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Sylvan Abbey on September 9, 2023. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 – 1:30 with the service from 1:30-2:30. Immediately following will be graveside blessings and prayers from 2:30-3:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Nick’s memory.
