Maria Socorro Ulbrich died on May 11, 2024. She was born on January 23, 1929, in Cali, Colombia, South America. Maria is predeceased by her husband, Harry Ulbrich. She is survived by her sister, Aura Gomez, Colombia, South America, Ofelia Nobs, Belprahon, Switzerland, Mario Palomá and wife, Julia, Tampa, Florida. Maria is predeceased by her parents, Felix Valois Palomá and Barbarita Vizcaya de Palomá, her sisters, Rosa Herrera, and Angela McComas, and brothers, Azael Palomá and Dr. Luis Palomá.
She was previously employed as a secretary in Cali, Colombia. Maria was offered the opportunity by her sister Angela McComas to travel to Orlando, Florida ultimately making the decision to move to the United States in 1964. She moved to Dunedin, Florida working as a seamstress and assisting her sister Angela McComas in raising Angela McComas’ sons Steven and David McComas. Later, Maria married and moved her talents to Cincinnati, Ohio for several years to return to Dunedin, Florida, and started and grew her seamstress business.
Maria will be remembered for her tireless grace and beauty. Stunning in appearance, she drew people to her with gentleness and humor. She was deeply spiritual, finding peace in her faith, and she had true peace with all. She is lovingly cherished and remembered by her brother, sisters, numerous nieces, and nephews, and her name continues with her great-niece, Anna Maria McComas.
Maria’s deep love for all created an atmosphere that caused the family to draw to her and each other. She was the central figure in the family, the rock. Although she had no children of her own, her legacy of love and ability to connect created a large close-knit family of her own that will not be matched.
Maria loved her nephews Steven and David McComas, whom she adored beyond measure. Her unconditional love for Steven and David knew no bounds, and her gentle spirit, work ethic, and radiant smile created an inseparable bond between her nephews.
Maria had an enduring faith and remained a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin, Florida. Though she may be gone from our sights, her grace, love, and legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
