John Joseph Garies

On Saturday, April 10th, 2021, John J. Garies passed away at the age of 91. John was born on October 25th, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri where he lived until he retired. He was an electrician by trade and a member of the IBEW. He was an army veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired in 1994 and moved to Palm Harbor, Florida. He was a devout Catholic and a Hospice volunteer. He never met a stranger as everyone was his friend. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness and gentlemanly ways. He was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife of 47 years, Mary Margaret “Margie” Garies, his sister, Mary Garies, his brother, William Garies and his sister, Jo Ann Huesgen. He is survived by his 4 children, Tina Garies, Donna Wood, Amy Schuler and Johnnie Garies and his sisters-in-law, Joann Yeoman and Shiloh Garies. He had 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30am Friday, May 14th, 2021 at St Luke Catholic Church, 2757 Alderman Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34684. Burial will follow the same day at 1pm at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, St Petersburg, FL 33708.
