Donna was born on April 25, 1919, in Midvale Ohio, to Everett E. Nixon and Mary Cooper Nixon. She grew up in New Philadelphia, Ohio, where she graduated high school. Donna then moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she attended business school and worked for the Ohio Department of Health,
On a blind date arranged by a Alpha Sigma sorority sister, she met Harry V. Zahm, whom she married in November, 1942, following a brief nine month courtship. After Harry obtained his Ph. D. in chemistry from Ohio State University, they moved to Buffalo, New York, for one year and then on to Syracuse, New York, where they remained for the next thirty years.
Donna raised two sons; Michael N. Zahm (1944-1971) and Douglas C. Zahm. Donna (“Nanny”) enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, cross-stich, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. She was active in her local Methodist church. Nanny loved collecting antiques. and was also an a participant in the Literacy Foundation, founded by a close personal friend of hers.
Upon retirement, Nanny and Harry (“Papo”) moved to Florida, where they shared many activities together.
Nanny loved her family most of all. She is survived by her son Douglas C. Zahm; daughter-in-law, Lucinda K. Zahm; grand daughters Kimberly Zahm Wehner (David Wehner) and Laura Zahm Spiva (Dell Spiva); and great grand sons Finn and Grayson Wehner, and Landon and Tanner Spiva.
Nanny spent 99 years on this earth and touched many lives in a very positive and kind way. Thank you to the staff at Arden Courts of Tampa for the loving care you showed Nanny in the last few years of her life. We love you Nanny and will one day see you in heaven and what a day of rejoicing that will be.
