Charles Noel Mills, Sr. of Clearwater, Florida passed away on December 23, 2020. He was born on Dec. 30, 1936 to parents William and Clara Mills. He was the youngest brother to his sister, the late Marie Reier, and his brother, Bob.
Charlie was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. He attended St. Michael’s elementary school, was an altar boy, and played on the St. Michael’s football team. Legend has it that he was the 2nd fastest player on the team, behind only Johnny Stoneburner.
He served in the Navy for 4years and served on the U.S.S Randolph.
He attended the University of Maryland and had a Maryland terrapin tattoo on his left arm.
He was married for 30 years to Jean Mills and had 3 boys along the way, Charlie Jr., Jeff, and John.
He spent his entire professional career at the Department of State as a researcher. In his retirement years he enjoyed playing tennis and volleyball and dancing. He was a proud senior Olympics participant. He loved chocolate covered cherries.
He is survived by his 3 sons, his brother Bob, his half-nephew and best friend Bick, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, nieces and nephews.
