She was born on June 26, 1935, in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Ronald E. and Stella (Haney) Swisher.
Following graduation from Clearfield High School in 1953, Becky moved to Syracuse, NY, for a factory job, but after six short weeks she realized life was better in Clearfield. She moved home and met the love of her life and her future husband at a dance at Phil’s Last Chance Bar. She married Raymond “Moon” Mullen on October 25, 1957, and they settled in Plymptonville in 1960. Their corner lot became the hub for neighborhood kickball and hide-and-seek games. In recent years, her wonderful neighbors helped her maintain the property and frequently assisted with errands and shopping.
Becky believed in hard work, finishing what you start, that family comes first, and dinner was served PROMPTLY at six. An exceptional cook, she enjoyed large family gatherings and sharing her cooking secrets with her children. She loved reminiscing around the kitchen table and her deck was always open for an impromptu get together with friends.
Summer camping trips to Myrtle Beach or famous historical sites meant more family time and a chance for her kids to learn about America. Vacations were gladly planned around the kids’ sports schedules, because she believed in the values that team sports instill. An avid football fan, Becky’s fall weekends included listening to the Clearfield Bisons on Friday, Penn State on Saturday, and the Steelers on Sunday.
After working in clerical and back-office jobs for various Clearfield retailers, including Sears, Brody’s, and Clearfield Furs, she retired from the work force in the mid-1980’s to be a full-time homemaker. Active in the community, Becky was a past member of the Coterie Club, N.O.N., and the American Legion Auxiliary. After Moon retired from Penelec, they enjoyed travelling to visit family and taking Caribbean cruises. Becky was always up for an adventure but was even happier to be home.
She is survived by her four children: Tracy Mullen of Ebensburg; Raymond Mullen, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Indiana, PA; Kevin Mullen and his wife Lisa of Forest Hill, MD; and Barbara Visoria and her husband Franco of Wesley Chapel, FL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kevin Mullen (wife Alex), Cecelia Mullen, Grace Mullen, Griffin Mullen, Cade Mullen, Gabriel Visoria and Ryan Visoria; and a sister Beverly (Harold) Swift of Tallahassee, FL and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; an infant granddaughter, Bridget Anne Mullen; an infant brother, Roland Swisher; brother Ronald E. Swisher, Jr., and sisters Margaret Boal and Natalie Gill.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
