Funeral services for Myra E. Davis, 102 of DuBois and formerly of Clearfield, will be held at The Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield on Monday, October 14, 2024. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at which time funeral services will begin with Penn Highlands Health Career Hospice Chaplin, Sher Sherwood officiating. Interment will be in Historic Crown Crest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Myra passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Christ The King Manor, DuBois surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 11, 1922 in Howard, PA., the daughter of the late John J. and Mabel V. (Rauch) Shaw.
Myra graduated from Clearfield High School, Class of 1940 and from Germantown Hospital and School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA in 1943. She worked many years as an R.N. in the Clearfield Hospital and retired from Home Health Services in 1987.
On October 23, 1943 Myra married Groff Davis.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, Clearfield where she served as an elder and a deacon. Myra was also a member of the Advisory Council of Area Agency on Aging. She enjoyed helping in the kitchen and for many years baked “Santa” cookies that she hung on the Christmas tree and gave to the children in her life. Myra also loved to quilt, spend time with her quilting friends, and her family.
Myra is survived by two sons, Groff Davis, Jr. and his wife, Ann of Lebanon, PA, Mark Davis and his wife, Melanie of West Decatur, and a daughter, Elizabeth J. “Betsy” Olbrich and her husband, Gregory of New Hill, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Edward Davis, Timothy Davis, Megan Sheloski, Emily Seifried, Lisa Davis, Basil Davis, Elliot Davis, Jade Olbrich, Luke Olbrich, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myra was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jean Maines and Marian Shipley and two brothers, Cloyd Shaw and Emerson Shaw. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Groff and a son, Walter Davis.
