Maxine was born on February 2, 1927 in Bethelridge, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Johnson) Smith. In search of employment, her family moved to Clearfield in 1933, where Maxine would reside for her entire life.
Maxine started her first job at age 16, working as a seamstress at Clearfield Sportswear. Through the years she was also employed by Kent’s Sportswear and McGregor’s, earning the reputation as a master seamstress and a valued employee.
On August 26, 1943 she married Nathan Patrick Buzzanca, Sr., and as well as being a homemaker, became a working mother.
Their 60 year marriage resulted in five children; Margaret “Bonnie” Buzzanca, Maria “Rose” Odrosky, Linda Ann Johnston, Debra Jean Yingling and Nathan Patrick Buzzanca, Jr., seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret F. Carrier Giuffre and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Madge Grace, a granddaughter, Melanie Johnston and a grandson, Gregory Odrosky, Jr.
Maxine enjoyed working, sewing and reading (preferring murder mystery and historic biographies). In addition to her great talents as a seamstress, she was known for her beautiful flower gardens, her lovely handmade crochet lace, her excellent homestyle cooking and baking and a great love of dogs and all animals.
Graveside Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Calvary Cemetery Chapel with Father Brandon M. Kleckner officiating.
