He was born on July 6, 1924 in Surveyor, PA, the son of James and Carrie (Edwards) Shaw.
Mr. Shaw was a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School class of 1940.
He was a member of the Shawville United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees.
Mr. Shaw was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army during WW II as Technician 3rd grade (Staff Sgt.). He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol.
He had worked in the mines, railroad, sawmill, Curtiss Wright and after 20 years he retired from Penelec.
Mr. Shaw enjoyed many hobbies; gardening, flowers, hunting and fishing and in his later years loved listening to gospel music. He was a devoted family man.
He is survived by three sons and a daughter; Jeffrey Shaw and his wife Trudy of Clearfield, PA, Steven Shaw and his wife Beth, of Lexington, KY, Daniel Shaw, of Indiana, PA and Melissa Dixon and her fiancé Rodney of Shawville, PA , eight grandchildren, Stefanie, Megan, Mindy, Heather, Becky, Callie, Steven and Sara, six great-grandchildren; Elijah, Carrie and Senna Fox, Kylen, Kerstien and Kayleigh Zottola, three brothers and three sisters; Helen Mellott of North Tonawanda, NY, Keith Shaw and his wife Jean of Niagara Falls, NY, Dean Shaw of Brookville, PA, Bernice Collins and her husband, Jack of Nicktown, PA , Hugh Shaw and his wife Judy of Shawville, PA and Agnes Vanderburgh of Clearfield, PA, a daughter-in-law, Robin Shaw, of Indiana, PA, numerous nieces and nephews, former pastor and friend, Rev. Ralph Young and his wife Debra and his care giver, Connie Mason who was a great help to him in his later years.
Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Althea (Bain) Shaw whom he married on October 2, 1948, and who passed away on August 25, 1987, two infant grandchildren and two brothers; Guy and Rex Shaw.
Honoring Mr. Shaw’s wishes there will be no public viewing or visitation.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Shawville United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Susan Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Eden Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Shawville United Methodist Church, Box 162, Shawville, PA 16873.
