Mr. Irwin was born November 20, 1931 in Pleasant Valley, PA, the son of Owen Edgar Irwin and Althea Joyce (McDonald) Irwin.
He drove Tri Axle for Reese Trucking for thirty eight years.
He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Bloomington.
He loved organic gardening, feeding his birds and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Irwin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife Virginia L. (Sayers) Irwin whom he married December 24, 1956, two children; Jay D. Irwin Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Olanta and his daughter Dawn M. and her husband Pastor David Hockenburry of Middletown, eight grandchildren; Ezekiel, Dylan, Chelsea, Abigale and Savannah Irwin and Kendra, Caitlin and Ashton Hockenburry, a great-grandson, Braydan Irwinfive brothers; Dick Irwin of MI, Bob Irwin of CT, Joe Irwin of PA and Roger Irwin of PA, four sister; Barb Records of NC, Janet Baker of PA, Mickey Hoyt of PA and Martha Green of PA also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters; Cindy Lou and Lori Ann Irwin, a granddaughter, Kylee Hockenburry and three brothers; Thomas, Owen and Jack Irwin.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Community Baptist Church with Pastor Todd T. Hogue and Pastor George W. Solley co-officiating. Interment will be at the Shawville Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the church on Monday from 10:00AM until the hour of the services.
