Mr. Brown was born August 29, 1940 in Clearfield, the son of John and Elizabeth (Strong) Brown.
He retired from Greenwich Colleries Coal Mines after 20 years of service. He had also been employed by Barnes and Tucker Coal Co. and Clearfield Cheese.
Mr. Brown was affiliated with the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield.
He was a member of the U.M.W.A., Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club and the N.R.A.
Mr. Brown was a United States Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam Era.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol L. Gibson of Curwensville, five grandchildren; Robert Clair Smay Jr. and his wife Trish, Lori Ann McKendrick and her husband Brad, Sherry Lee Warren and her husband Richard all of Clearfield, Kenneth C. Smay of Curwensville and Joseph Dale Johnson and his wife Kristy of Woodland, eleven great grandchildren, two sisters; Joan E. Broom and his wife Paul of Colorado and Sara Jane Brown of Clearfield and a brother, John Brown and his wife Carol of Ocean City, MD.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan Carol Brown who passed away February 2, 2011 and a son, Clair “Ross” Johnson in 1994.
Honoring Mr. Browns’ wishes there will be no public visitation.
Graveside Services will be held at Thompson Cemetery on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Duane White officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
