Roy was born in Johnston County, NC to John C. Raynor, Sr. and Alice P. Raynor on August 12, 1935. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School and attended NC State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Clara, on November 22, 1956 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Garner, NC.
Roy sold heavy construction equipment for many years. He became manager and vice-president of Construction Equipment Pool, Inc. in Clayton, NC. After retirement, he owned and operated Roy Raynor Mini Storage.
Roy loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. At Mount Zion, he faithfully served as treasurer, lay leader and taught Sunday School for many years. Baseball was a lifelong passion of his and he enjoyed playing, coaching and watching. He was an avid NC State fan. He and Clara loved to travel all over the country and internationally.
Roy loved his family and many loved him. He was a beloved big brother, wonderful husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle, coach and teacher.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara P. Raynor; children, Dr. R. Max Raynor, Jr. and wife, Teresa, April R. Byrd and husband, Dr. Alan Byrd, Dr. Eric Raynor and wife, Susan and Dee R. Whittington and husband, Neal; sister, Faye Cline; brother, Dr. Dewey Raynor and wife, Becky; grandchildren, John Raynor and wife, Mary, Anna Marbry and husband, Mike, Mary Beth Massengill and husband, Brody, Emily Raynor, Will Raynor, Jack Raynor and Raynor Whittington and great-grandchildren, Edie Raynor and Julia Marbry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey P. Raynor; brothers, John C. Raynor, Jr., Danford E. Raynor, Sr., and Billy W. Raynor; brother in law, Banks Cline and sisters in law, Myrtle Ann Raynor and Sue Raynor.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Alan Byrd, Neal Whittington, John Raynor, Mike Marbry, Brody Massengill, Will Raynor and Jack Raynor. Honorary pallbearers will be from the Fishers of Men Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mount Zion Building Fund in Roy's memory.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 10am at Mount Zion Church, 15772 NC-50 N., Garner, NC 27529. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Leonard Rex, will begin immediately following at 11am. A committal service will follow at Mount Zion Church cemetery.
