Joan Hutchins Coolidge

Joan Hutchins Coolidge, age 83, of Clayton, North Carolina passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on July 30, 1940, in Winthrop, NY to the late Bernard and Inez Carson Hutchins. A memorial service will be held for the family at a future date. She graduated from Saint Lawrence in Brasher Falls, NY in 1958 and went on to earn her associate degree.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Martin Coolidge; children, Lori, Martin, Jr. (Tammy), Rhonda (John Varallo), Aric (Christine) and Terry (Deborah), ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two sisters, Irene Royce and Doris Kelly. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, James and Douglas.

Joan retired from Cortland Memorial Hospital in July 1999 where she served in various positions. Her greatest love in life was her family. She was a wife, homemaker, babysitter, chef, tailor, advisor, confidant and quilter. She liked to cook and looked forward to preparing feasts for various holidays. For fifteen years she was involved with breeding, caring and exhibiting of Shetland Sheepdogs. She spent several winters in St. Augustine, FL where she engaged in many social activities, shark tooth hunting on the beaches, the amenities offered by the city and the several friends she made.
