Jerome Edward "Jerry" Havel, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Jerry was born in Chicago, IL on October 15, 1936, to his late parents, Jerry F. Hess and Mardell Zander. After receiving his honorable discharge as a staff sergeant with the US Marine Corp., Jerry worked with Lockheed Martin and later became an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration retiring after 41 years of service.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Talton and her husband, Billy, Alysia Davis and her husband, Kevin; a son, Jerry Havel, III; grandchildren, Austin Braswell and Braxton Davis. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Havel and a special friend, Betty Embry.
A visitation for Jerry will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30pm at McLaurin Funeral Home. A funeral service will occur on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the interment following at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
