Grace Crabtree Bailey

On November 6, 2022, Grace Crabtree Bailey made her final journey home. When her health permitted, she attended Baptist Center Church and Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Clayton. She was a devoted wife, mother, Grannie and Great Grannie.

She was born on June 25, 1932, in Raleigh, North Carolina to the late Ivon and Erma Murphy Crabtree. She is survived by a son, Butch Bailey and his wife Rhonda; daughter, Sharon Bailey McCabe and her husband Mike all of Clayton. She was Grannie to four grandchildren, Brett Bailey, Alex Bailey, Holle McCabe (Lance) and Justin McCabe, and she was Great Grannie to Grayson and Deckard Stewart. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, LaRue Harrison Crabtree and many nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Billy E Bailey, Sr.; sister, Algerline Jefferies (AJ Jefferies); brother, Kelly B Crabtree; brother, John Brooks Crabtree (Ruby); sister, Ruth Carroll (Charles); brother, Harold Crabtree.

Grace graduated from Clayton High School where she played basketball and was named “Athlete of the Year” her senior year. She retired from the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. After retirement, Grace accompanied Bill to McDonald’s, Bojangles and Jones’ Café where they spent time with friends and catching up on the town news. She loved “scratch and sniff” lotto tickets, the Atlanta Braves, any sport her grandkids played, penny poker and canasta. In her final years, she enjoyed the Hallmark Channel and bird watching.

The family would like to extend a “thank you” to the staff at UNC Johnston Heath for the wonderful and compassionate care given to our momma.

While we are saddened to say goodbye, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior.

Due to illness within the family, a private service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Pinecrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Clayton.

Flowers are appreciated; however, memorial contributions can be made in Grace’s memory to Mount Calvary Baptist Church (Mission Fund), 5217 Barber Mill Road, Clayton, NC 27520.
