Elizabeth Cooper McLaurin

Elizabeth Anne Cooper McLaurin, age 83, of Clayton, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. She was born in Raleigh, NC on May 23, 1940, the daughter of the late R. Lawrence and Gaynelle Hinton Cooper. Mrs. McLaurin graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1960 and earned her master's degree from Winthrop College.

Liz was active in her Church, The Woman’s Club of Clayton and volunteering her time in the community while she was able. She loved playing the piano, reading her Harlequin Intrigue romantic mystery books and eating sweets.

Surviving are her sons, Edgar Jennings Gower, Jr and Gregory Cooper Gower both of Waxhaw; stepchildren, Leslie Barber and her husband, David, Margaret McLaurin, Jim McLaurin and his wife Marian; grandchildren, Eddy Gower, III, Austen Gower, Jaxon Gower, Cooper Gower and, Wrenn Gower; great grandchildren, Axton Gower, Rylee Gower and Cole Gower; nieces, Cindy Gower, Misty Gower and Elizabeth Sauls; nephew, Lawrence Sauls. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy D. McLaurin and a sister, Mary Cooper Sauls.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00am at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00am. A private interment will follow the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.
