David Reid Batten

David Reid Batten, 75, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He was born in Johnston County to the late Lero Dalton (Jack) Batten and Louise Hinton Batten. David was a Vietnam Veteran and proud of his service to his country. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #990. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and earned a degree in agriculture education. David was an educator with Johnston County schools for 31 years. David loved to hunt, fish, talk and watch NC State athletics but his favorite activity was spending time with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Massengill Batten; son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Charity Batten; granddaughters, Elizabeth Grace Batten and Jamie Lou Batten; siblings, Linda Batten Burgess (Jimmy), Wayne Batten (Pam) and Jackie Batten Utley (Jim); sister-in-law, Ellen Batten; brother-in-law, Robert Massengill (Christy) and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother, L.D. Batten.

A visitation will be held from the 10-11am on Friday, October 25,2024, at Baptist Tabernacle Church, 1599 NC Hwy 231, Wendell, NC. A service of celebration will follow at 11am in the church sanctuary with Rev. Glen Brock officiating.
