Dick as he liked to be called, was the second son and last born in Chicago, IL to parents Patrick and Queen. Dick grew up in Chicago and attended St. Mel’s Military High School where his love of the game of baseball really took off, becoming a Stand Out left handed pitcher for the Calgary Buffalo Canadian League. After graduating in 1947, Dick enrolled at the University of Arizona, joining the Kappa Sigma Fraternity in 1949 and still playing baseball for the schools team, Wild Cats, which was voted in 1950 “The Best U of A Baseball team in History”. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954 when he met and married the love of his life Gloria, and started a family having the first of 3 daughters in 1955. In 1961 Dick moved his family to California where his only son and last child was born in 1970, and after 50 years in sales, Dick retired. Dick is the Grandfather to 11, Great Grandfather to 19 and Great Great Grandfather to 1. Dick is survived by daughters Candice O’Donnell (Gordan), Cyndee Chiquet (Vince), son Casey Corrigan and Son-in-law Carlos Alestra (Debi) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dick is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Gloria and their oldest daughter Debi Alestra.
Church services will be held on January 22, 2022 at 11 am at St. Mel’s Catholic Church 4745 Pennsylvania Avenue, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. Reception to follow at 7129 Mary Ann Way, Citrus Heights, CA 95621.
Military service will be held on January 27, 2022 at 9:30 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses who took wonderful care of Dick from the Veterans Clinics and Hospital, at both Mather and McClellan facilities.
