John was born June 16, 1922 in Wayne County, IL the son of Morton Galbraith and Alta Henson. He married Dorothy Maxine Powless on February 24, 1946 at Sims, IL and she survives.
John served his country from November 1942 to May 1945. He served in Company T/0 in Patton’s 3rd Army Division fighting in the Northern France Campaign and the Normandy Campaign. For his service, John was awarded with a good conduct ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre ribbon, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
After his service in the Army, John was a Ford service technician for many years then retired from H. B. Williamson in Wayne City.
John, for many years, was a member of the Brush Creek Church and served as a deacon there. John was also an avid fisherman and loved to have fish frys for his family, friends, and church community.
John is survived by two sons John and his wife Karen Galbraith of Foristell, MO and Noel and his wife Dava Galbraith of Opdyke, IL. He is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.
Funeral services for John Galbraith will be 1PM Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Brush Creek Community Church of Christ at Zenith, IL and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. There will be military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7PM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.
Memorials may be given to Brush Creek Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
