Olivia Ybarra moved from her birthplace of Chapala, Jalisco to Santa Barbara CA with her husband, Jose Ybarra shortly after their marriage on January 7, 1948. They settled into the city of Santa Barbara where they were surrounded by friends and family of her husband. She soon made new friends and formed many long term friendships that continued a lifetime.
Soon after arriving in the United States she started her family of 6 children and her 25 year career of working in several different industries. She retired in 1978 from Pickett Industries, where she was a production machine operator for over 10 years.
In 1978, after their retirement Jose and Olivia moved to San Diego where they purchased a new home and quickly started the process of settling in and convincing their children to relocate from Santa Barbara to be close to them.
Soon after their move to San Diego, Olivia was blessed with grandchildren living nearby and began her second career of being a wonderful grandmother. She was eager to help with raising her grandchildren and lovingly prepared meals for them and walked them back and forth to school daily. Her summers were filled with all the grandma chores that left loving impressions on all her grandchildren.
As Olivia aged, their roles were reversed and her children and grandchildren provided loving care and many hours of visits and family gatherings that brought her countless days of happiness.
Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother will be remembered for the joy in her loving smile, her strength, her ability to make us laugh until we cried, her graciousness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and the great grandchildren that ran across the street to hug and kiss their grandma daily and by all that visited her often to see her bright smile and hear her storytelling. She had the gift of captivating us all with her great stories and sense of humor.
We love you Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma…….we’re happy you’re united with dad and we know you’re making him laugh and smile again in heaven. You will be missed more than we can express.
