With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Castillo, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, favorite aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on January 24, 2022, at the age of 102. She would always say that her secret to life was no smoking, no drinking, and no cussing.
Mary was born in a mining town in Arizona. As a young child, she moved with her family to Los Angeles to be with other family members. Mary lived a full life as a farm girl in Torrance and Imperial, then as a homemaker, and a wonderful mother. Moving from San Diego to Maryland, then back to Los Angeles, she devoted her life to her family.
She was an avid sports fan, closely following basketball, baseball, bowling, and horse racing. Mary loved her UCLA basketball and her Clippers. She dressed in the team’s T-Shirts during the games and would write the score on the newspaper. She was highly skilled in bowling, participating in leagues and tournaments.
Most of all, she loved her family and instilled strong values and a fashion sense that served them well. Mary treasured and embraced every moment with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter.
She had a warm, caring, and vivacious personality, and always made people around her laugh. She never skipped a beat. She made friends everywhere she went.
Mary was the beloved mother of Linda (Don, Steve), proud grandmother of Christina (Adrian), proudest great-grandmother of Sophia.
Predeceased by her husband Tony, devoted sister Rosie, brother Joe, and sister-in-law Isabel.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday, 2-11-22.
