Verlene Wood, age 89 passed away peacefully on December 19, 2022. She was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, second child to Paul and Elverna Christoffersen. Her family moved to Chowchilla, California shortly after she was born. She grew up, raised her family, and spent the rest of her life in Chowchilla.
Verlene married her high school sweetheart; Donald Lee Wood and they are the proud parents of D. Craig Wood and Daniel L. Wood. Many memories of hard work, fun, and family times are shared and remembered fondly by the boys and family.
Verlene is survived by her devoted husband, Donald L. Wood, sons Craig (Pam) Wood, Danny (Darcel) Wood, and grandchildren; Janell (Kevin) Cox, Joshua Wood, Bradley (Leslie) Wood, Bret (Mayumi) Wood, Seth (Annie) Wood, Chad (Stephanie) Wood, Dylan (Vanessa) Wood, William Wood; 20 great-Grandchildren and 8 great-great Grandchildren.
Family was of utmost importance to Verlene. She dedicated herself to serving them, as well as those she met, with an immense amount of love and dedication. Many of her grandchildren learned about compassion, service, and hard work at her feet and by watching her ethic in action.
As a follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Verlene spent her life giving of self and serving others.
She is remembered for working as a secretary for Valley Fertilizer, operating her own real estate business, and all while managing the accounting and back office bookkeeping for the family farm.
Verlene loved to both water and snow ski in her younger years. She enjoyed doing small crafts and loved her time spent on motorcycle rides with her husband and family.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church building at 277 Howell Road, Chowchilla, California on December 29th at 1:30 p.m. with a viewing starting at 11:30 a.m.
Internment will be at the Chowchilla Cemetery.
