Son of Thomas Curtis Wood and Verna Lee Griffith.
Don Wood, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on May 26, 2023. He was born in Waurika, Oklahoma, only child of Thomas (TC) and Verna Wood. His family moved to Chowchilla, California when he was one-year old. He grew up, raised his family, and spent the rest of his life in Chowchilla.
Don married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Verlene Christofferson, and they are the proud parents of D. Craig Wood and Daniel L. Wood. Many fond memories of hard work, fun, and family time are shared and remembered by the boys and family.
Don is survived by his sons Craig (Pam) Wood, Danny (Darcel) Wood, and grandchildren; Janell (Kevin) Cox, Bradley (Leslie) Wood, Joshua Wood, Bret (Mayumi) Wood, Seth (Annie) Wood, Chad (Stephanie) Wood, Dylan (Vanessa) Wood, William Wood; 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Don was athletic in high school and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He worked hard on the family farm with his parents milking the family cow and working the land. After high school he entered into a partnership with his dad on the farm. Don made this his career and supported his family as a hardworking and successful farmer.
Don was well known as a motorcycle enthusiast and loved riding and touring on his Honda Goldwing with family and friends. He was one of the founding members of the Chowchilla Motorcycle Group.
Pop, as he was known to the grandkids, was always generous with his time and loved his family. Don and Verlene loved to have the grandkids visit and do fun activities with them; making sure each one of them felt appreciated and important. Family activities included travel, waterskiing, visits to the cabin in the mountains, and other family gatherings and picnics.
Funeral services will be held at the Chowchilla Cemetery on June 6th at 10 am. A viewing will be held that same morning at Palm Memorial Worden Chapel from 8:30-9:00 am.
Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Cox, Joshua Wood, Brad Wood, Bret Wood, Seth Wood, Chad Wood, Dylan Wood and William Wood.
