Ronald Jose Abella Sr., aged 79, was born in Bluefields, Nicaragua on August 29, 1944. He passed away in Ontario, California, on June 11th, 2024. Ronald was born and raised Catholic. He was the son of Justo Abella and Luz Mendoza.
Ronald graduated as an accountant from the Cristobal Colon Institute in 1962 and worked at Bluefield’s national bank in Nicaragua. He initially studied theology with the Jesuit congregation intending to become a priest. Ronald remained a man of faith until the end and was known for singing the Virgen of Conception song.
In 1966 Ronald married Maura Auxiliadora Tablada and was blessed with six children. Ronald learned the value of family and hard work early in life and always prioritized his family. In 1986 he immigrated to the United States and brought his family with him... In the U.S., he worked at Luis Morillo Immigration Services and later joined the Whittier Unified School District, where he retired in July 2012.
Ronald was an exceptional husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family and the friends he had made throughout his life. Ronald was known for his warm hospitality, always making everyone feel at home. He lived a fulfilling life, enjoying travel, visits to casinos, trips to Nicaragua, and a deep love for music, often singing at birthday celebrations.
Ronald is survived by his wife Maura Abella and his children: Luz and Bruce Benner, Ronald and Irma Abella, Humberto and Roxana Abella, Zoila and Livy Morales, Maura and Augustine Hernandez, Flor Abella, and Terry Saldana. He was also a loving grandfather to Ronald Abella III, Aaron Saldana, Jonathan Hornedo, Ashley & Sarah Hornedo, David Benner, Kimberly & Tyler Hayhurst, Jimmy Custodio, Maura Custodio, Humberto Alexander Abella, Matthew Abella, Esteban Morales, and Andrea Morales. In addition, Ronald is survived by his half-siblings in Nicaragua: Nidia, Efrain, Melida, and Noel Abella.
Ronald has reunited in heaven with his parents, Justo Abella and Luz Mendoza, Grandchildren Ysabella Hernandez and Ángel Morales, and his siblings, Justo, Jorge, Zoila, Rosa, Heberto, and Yolanda Abella.
Per Ronald's wishes, a funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino, California, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills, California.
