Rena Mellema

Rena Mellema was born to Andrew and Tillie Brouwers on October 29, 1915 in Marion County, Indiana. She passed away March 2, 2013 in Chino, CA at 97 years of age. Rena moved with her family to California in 1924 and settled in the El Monte area. She worked in the dairy industry. Rena married Andrew Koopman in 1932 and after 9 years was widowed in 1941. Love found Rena again and she married Henry Stam in 1943. Rena became widowed in 1967 when Henry passed away. In 1968, Rena married Bert Mellema. They were happily married until 1999 when Bert passed away. Rena was a Chino, CA resident from 1968 until she moved to the Inland Christian Home in 1997 in Ontario, CA. She was a faithful member of the First United Reformed Church in Chino. Rena is survived by her step-children Dirk Mellema, Jack and Betty Mellema, Ron and Ruth Bode, Wilbur Mellema; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation hours will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Friendship Hall at Inland Christian Home. A memorial service will be 12 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at First United Reformed Church in Chino. Interment will be private. www.funerariadelangelchino.com
