Mr. Tyre Lewis Nicholson, 92 of China Grove passed away on May 4, 2014 at his residence. Born on May 26, 1921 in Yadkin County, he was the son of the late Noah and Mindy Jarvis Nicholson. A graduate of Yadkin County Schools, he was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army. He was a faithful member of South China Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion. Earlier in life Mr. Nicholson worked for China Grove Cotton Mills and retired from Parkdale Mills in Lexington, where he worked for 17 years in maintainence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Nola Solomon Nicholson on November 4, 2010 and his son Tyre Lewis Nicholson Jr. on April 13, 1950. Those left to cherish his memory is his son Dwight Nicholson (Anita) of China Grove and daughters, Stella Smith (Dewey) and Hilda Price, both of Salisbury, Barbara Nicholson and Julia Hunter (Tim) both of China Grove, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchild. Visiation will be on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with service on Thursday at 2:00 at South China Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Tony Wagoner, minister. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. In liew of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice, 720 Grove St. Salisbury, NC 28144.
