LANDIS: Paul Duane Goodman, 84, of Landis, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at CMC-Northeast Medical Center in Concord. Mr. Goodman was born January 4, 1929, the son of the late James Mont and Sarah Ollie Goodman; who passed away 11 days after giving birth to Mr. Goodman. Paul was raised by his step mother, the late Daisy Burkett Goodman.
Paul graduated from West Jefferson High School and holds a degree from Kings Business College. Paul had worked in companies such as Life and Caualty, Corlin Processing and Cannon Mills throughout his career, holding a variety of positions before his retirement at age 65.
Even in his retirement, he always kept busy, working as a security guard at NC Research Center as well as others. A member of Lakewood Baptist Church, he was a deacon for many years. Paul loved fishing,traveling tending to his garden and inventing tools and toys to make life more enjoyable for those around him.He was a devoted grandfather and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events-never missing a game. Of all the places he traveled, he never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
Family members include his wife, Ruby Johnson Goodman, sons, Dennis Goodman of the home and Mark Goodman and wife Zaira, of Mooresville. His daughters, Sandra "Sandy" Helms and husband Steven of Kannapolis, Wanda Beaver and husband Bobby of Kannapolis, and Rhonda Lambert and husband Alen "Dee" of Kannapolis. A sister, Iris Goodman Scott of Greenville, SC. ,his grandchildren; Sheri, Bobby, Chris, Melinda, Melissa, Stevie, Brandon, Danny and Felipe, and a grandchild, Angela, preceded him in death, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday 3:00pm at the Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis with the Rev. Josh Hughes and Rev. Chris Goodman officiating. Prior to the service there will be a visitation from 2-3:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
