Maurice Gabriel Leverrier was born March 13, 1929 in Manitoba, grew up in BC and passed away peacefully after a short hospital stay on August 28, 2013 at the age of 84 in Chilliwack, BC. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 64 years, Frances, and his children Delaine Leverrier, Debbie (Phil) West, and David (Dianna) Leverrier. He cherished his five grandchildren Christina, Catherine, Kristy (Ash) David (Melissa), Phillip (Kelly) West, and seven great grandchildren Ashleigh, Natasha, Jayden, Mackenzie, Summer, Martina and Lacey. Predeceased by his parents, his sister Yvonne and his brothers in law Andy Rambold and John McEachern, and sisters in law Dot (Dorothy) Leverrier and Liz Rambold, Maurice is also survived by his older brother Bert Leverrier and sister Geri (Rick) , and many loving nieces and nephews.
Maurice will be remembered from the early years with his black combed back hair, guitar in hand singing the Cattle Call with his band called “The Country Kings” and having such fun. In 1950 they left Kelowna for work with BC Corrections and with pride he served 25 years. He kept family and friends for a lifetime in Kelowna and the lower mainland. Maurice’s first language shone through with his charismatic armchair coaching and raised glass for Jean Béliveau and his team, Montreal Canadians. Besides music, his second passion was hockey. During the early years you would find him at the Maple Ridge hockey arena where he coached his son, and in the later days you would spot him sitting on a bleacher watching the Chilliwack Chiefs. Family first, Maurice loved camping, was known for a great golf swing, and could always be counted on for his quick wit. His door was always open and he laughed easily. When in his presence you truly felt listened to by this warm hearted man.
He was a night owl, and will remain a bright light in the midnight sky for all of those he touched. Maurice, we’ll have a never ending song of love for you!
