After a long battle with kidney disease, our beloved John passed away on July 18 at Abbotsford General Hospital at the age of 81.
Born in Montreal, John made his way out west as his life unfolded. Beginning his corporate career in the P&C insurance business in Montreal, his profession eventually took him to Ontario, before settling in BC in the early 1990’s (Chilliwack) culminating in his eventual retirement in 2005.
John made the most of life after struggling with addiction issues with alcohol early in his life. Following a severe accident from which he luckily avoided serious injury, John focused on turning his life around with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. This became one of the core tenets in his life.
He remarried in 1987 and chose a new adventure to move out West in 1991 with his new wife. It is here where John had the chance to further develop his other passion in life on the golf course. As a member of Chilliwack Golf and Country Club, he enjoyed walking the course, playing with his friends at various tournaments and other functions, or playing different courses in retirement.
Away from the course, John continued his devotion to helping others at AA, whether offering words of encouragement, celebrating birthdays, or helping out with events. John was also a huge sports fan as he always kept close tabs on his beloved Montreal Canadiens or his Expos back in the day. He also spoke fondly of his high school football playing days in Montreal.
He will be sadly missed and cherished by his family and friends. Wife; his brother and sister in-law; his son and daughter; step-children and many grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
