David Albert Neil MacAulay

David graduated Chilliwack High School in 1950, Vancouver Normal School in 1954, received his B.A. from UBC in 1962 and his M.Ed from UBC in 1968. He began his professional teaching career with Chilliwack School District #33 in 1954

His professional experience was as follows.

1954-57 Elementary classroom teacher

1957-62 Elementary School Principal

1962-64 Night School Principal (1/2 time) & Junior Secondary Counsellor/Teacher (1/2 time)

1964-65 Director of School District Adult Education

1965-68 Junior Secondary Principal

1968-70 Supervisor of Elementary Instruction

1970-80 Director of Elementary Instruction

1980-89 Deputy Superintendent of Schools

July 31, 1989 David retired but continued as a part-time Instructor and Practicum Supervisor for the Fraser Valley College - Special Education Teach Assistants Program and short-term contracts for the Chilliwack School District - enrollment projections and the Ministry of Education - for Independent School Evaluations.

His professional activities and affiliations included President of the Chilliwack District Teachers' Association, President for the Fraser Valley Adult Education Directors Association, President of the Chilliwack Secondary School Administrators' Association, President of the BC Association of Directors of Instruction, Adjunct Professor for Simon Fraser University, Faculty of Education, Executive Member of the Association of BC School Superintendents and members of the Ministry of Education Textbook Advisory Committee, Minister's Advisory Committee on Teacher Education, American Association of School Personnel Administrators and BC College of Teachers.

Community involvement was important to David and he was actively involved in many ways.

It was an honour for David to be twice awarded the Paul Harris Award through Rotary and also the "Avenues of Service Citation". David enjoyed directing the “Men of Song” chorus at First Avenue Assembly, loved playing games with family and friends and was an awesome, much loved husband, father and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Pearl; children Dan & Sharon MacAulay and Doug & Cheryl MacAulay; grandchildren Jennifer MacAulay, Christopher MacAulay, Jon MacAulay, Rachel Kampen and Michael MacAulay; great-grandchildren Cassandra, Ella, Liam and Lily.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at First Avenue Christian Assembly, 46510 First Avenue, Chilliwack; Rev. Elmer Martin officiating.
