It is with sad and heavy hearts that the family of Clarence Kolcun announce his passing on November 14, 2021 after prolonged health complications. He was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on April 16, 1927. He headed west for work and it was on a farm in southern Alberta where he met his future wife, Betty. They were married on October 30, 1948. They moved to Hope, BC in 1952 where they raised five children.
Dad was a member of the Hope Search and Rescue and the Hope Rod and Gun Club for decades. He was honored by Search and Rescue for being the oldest member both in age and length of service. Dad was very proud of his plaques that he received as he was very dedicated to this cause. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying prospecting, hunting and hiking for most of his life. During his career, he was employed by several logging companies in the Hope area where his knowledge of drilling and blasting was huge.
Clarence is survived by his daughters Susan (Yuji), Candy (John), Doris (Kelly), Sherry (Jason) and his son Gordon (Rhonda) as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. They are Paul, Camille, Kinsley and Cameron; Kevin and Candace; Rob, Sherry, Adam, Andrea, Reilly and Hallie, Tara Lynn and Stephen; Nikki, Jodie, Shelby and Rylan; Becky and Melissa; Jeff, Laure and James; Kristy; Amanda and Jon; Carey and Sabrina; Marlaina, Carlos, Jakob and Jocelyn; Kaytlin, Logan, Finnick, Dashel and Delaney. He is also survived by his sister Nell as well as several nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his wife Betty, his brothers Peter, Bill, Alec, Stan and Ken.
Rest easy. You were a great husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother and uncle. We will all miss you very much. A Celebration of Clarence’s life will be held in Hope in the Spring.
