Benny Nelson traded time for eternity on the morning of January 25, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Connie Thomas Nelson; son, Thomas Nelson; daughter, Brittany Nelson Parrott (husband Shane); daughter, Calan Nelson Arias (husband Hemir); mother, Dot Nelson; brother, Scott Nelson; brother, Randy Nelson Sr. (wife Woni), and his grandchildren, Caden, Harlyn, and Hampton.
Ben is preceded in death by his father Charlie Rudolph (Rudy) Nelson;step-mother Mary Nelson; sister-in-law Rhonda Nelson, and mother-in-law Helen Thomas.
Ben’s rich life of valiant service included serving as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Childersburg, Public Relations Officer on the board for the Kiwanis Club, the Parks and Recreation board of Childersburg, and formerly as a firefighter and paramedic for the city of Childersburg. He loved his work as a Respiratory therapist at Children's of Alabama and served countless families and children with his skills, while also bringing them hope and a road to healing with an ever-present dose of his joyous and gregarious spirit. Ben Nelson was truly a man who left us with an example of how to live and lead with a servant’s heart.
A visitation for Ben will be held Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00PM at First Baptist Church of Childersburg, followed by a funeral service at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Childersburg First Baptist and Childersburg Kiwanis.
