Born to the late Frederick and Margaret Schumacher, he was the beloved brother of Margie Schumacher.
Michael’s life was marked by deep and enduring relationships. He was the cherished husband of his first wife, the late Geraldine Schumacher, and later, the devoted husband of his second wife, Jane W. Schumacher, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years after meeting at a youth football game in Portage Park. He was the loving father of Christine (Christopher) Blum, Michael M. (the late Lori) Schumacher, William Schumacher, Ann (Kenneth) Strack, and the late Stephen Williams. His legacy extends to his grandchildren—Kevin (Jaclyn), Breanne, Caile, Katie (Sean), and Shannon (Jeff)—and his treasured great-grandchildren: Ryan, Annabeth, Luna, Rocky, Peter, Maija, Mae, and Charleigh.
In his personal time, Michael found joy in gardening, solving puzzles, and building models. An avid car enthusiast, he was a devoted member of the Midwest Street Rod Association of Illinois for over 20 years, where his passion for automobiles was evident in his active participation and camaraderie within the club. He also had a profound love for Chicago sports teams, cheering passionately for the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls.
For 14 years, Michael dedicated himself as a football coach for the Redskins in Portage Park, IL, demonstrating leadership and commitment. It was during this time that he first met Jane, marking the beginning of their lifelong journey together
Michael was best known for his generosity, humor, and selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand, earning him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Fix-It.” His charitable nature touched many lives, reflecting his deep commitment to serving others.
A visitation for Michael will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, followed by a Chapel Prayers at 7:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home. In accordance with the family’s wishes, funeral services and interment will be private. The family appreciates your understanding and support during this difficult time.
Michael’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
