He is preceded in death by his father (Robert), mother (Josephine née Farrell), wife (Cheryl née Banker) sons Michael and James and sister (Roberta).
Big Mike served 3 years in the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman and earned the Markmanship award (rifle). He went on to serve the city of Chicago for 30+ years as a policeman and retired out of District #9 as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, St. Christina Holy Name Society, Evergreen Park VFW, and the Retired Chicago Police Association. He loved the Cubs, the Bears, Jameson whiskey and 2% milk.
His legacy will live on in his beloved grandchildren Matthew, Erin (parents Michael and Kathleen née (Heneghan) and Owen, Genevieve (parents James, Kristin Hogan). He was affectionately called Papa and Grumpa and they are going to miss him so much.
Anyone who knew Mike knows he had a very generous heart and was a mixture of goofiness, stubbornness and incredible strength. He leaves behind many family and friends who are grateful that he is now with his heavenly family and is no longer suffering.
A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Andrew J McGann & Sons Funeral Home, 10727 S Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60655.
