Sgt. Flannery - you went way too soon.  Sorely missed by many, many people!!!

I've been thinking about you a lot lately. I miss you my friend!!  I wish you hadn't gone so soon.

Having just learn of Mike's passing Im deeply overcome with sorrow.
I met Mike a few years ago on an emergency visit to Chicago.
Mike looked after us as if we were his own officers.
I was lucky enough to return and spend some time with Mike touring Chicago.
Mike was a true gentleman and would put others before himself.
You will be missed Brother.
Go in peace your job is done on earth.

To the friends and family of Mike... I just heard of his passing today. My prayers and wish for a sense of comfort to you all. I knew Mike as a classmate of mine at St. Tarcissus School. He was a great person even then. He defended the underdog and had a way of making you feel good on your bad days. I am proud of his accomplishments and am sure he raised two wonderful children who will use the memories of him to become people of integrity, kindness and will have Christ guide them in this most diifficult time. My brother Michael - my friend and confidant. Thoughts of Michael and the many great times we all shared will live with us forever. That is how we should remember him... He was my mentor and as my big brother, my tormentor as all big brothers are at times. :) He always supported me whether I was right or wrong and gave me encouragement during the tough times in my life. He gave me advice, he gave me his opinion, his convictions were strong and his guidance never ending. Michael had the innate ability to captivate an audience, control a situation and put calmness in tumultuous times. He was a leader and blazed paths that many wanted to follow. His sense of humor was constant and his pranks kept us all on alert. He was famous for the plastic bowl of water propped on top of a partially opened door... yes he got me on that one more than once. :) He loved being a Dad and doing all the "Dad" things. He loved Nick and Colleen more than anything and constantly gave me updates of their accomplishments and achievements. Michael was well educated and used that to advance his career in law enforcement. He loved his job as a Sergeant on the Chicago Police Department and was looking forward to retirement in November. Since 1919, there has been a Flannery on the job. It started with my grandfather PJ followed by my Uncle Bob then my father Patrick and lastly by my brother. Thats 93 years of service to the City of Chicago. We will all miss Michael, my brother. Please keep him in his prayers as well as his kids, his father Patrick and sister Kathleen. A special thanks to Shari for making this celebration of Michaels life possible and the pictures and memories we will never forget. Thank you for coming today and God bless you all...

Shari, Nick, and Colleen I am very sorry for your loss.  Mike was a wonderful, funny man, a good boss, and a great friend.  When he would talk about his family, his whole face would light up.  I had the honor of working with him at the Academy, and I will never forget the many conversations we had.  Unit 124 will never be the same.  We will miss him.

I was shocked to hear of Mike's passing. We often discussed what each of us was taking in school and the technology that would benefit the law enforcement community the most, as well as the difference between our communities.   Mike was easy to talk to and always willing to help someone in any way he could even if it only involved lending a kind word or encouragement. As a former member of the OLETC Advisory Board his talents and input were very important to the first responder communities nationally.  All of you will be in my prayers this week as you go through this emotional and difficult time.  Please accept my sincere expression of sympathy for your loss.

I am so sorry for your lost mike was a very nice guy and loved his dad so much you would see it everytime he would come to see him at St. Joseph Village. He also would speak so happily about his family and the outings they would took and the trips as he smiling speaking of it. I am glad we had the honor of meeting him they say God only takes the best and he was one of them.

I first met Mike through our mutual passion working with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.  Through Mike's efforts with the license plate campaign, tens of thousands of dollars were raised to help the families of fallen and seriously injured Chicago Police Officers.  Mike always loved and believed in the work that the Foundation does for it's Chicago heroes.  I will miss you my friend. Those of us that had the pleasure and the honor to work with Mike share in your loss.  Mike was great friend. I will miss him tremendously.  My prayers go out to his family and all his friends.

I had the opportunity to spend time with Mike over the past decade. Either from coming out for the St. Patricks day parade or, thru a technology focus group we were both part of. I also travelled to Alaska with Mike for a forensics course. Mike was a very witty, very smart guy and I enjoyed his company. He spoke with a sparkle in his eyes about his family and job, especially his children.
