Lorraine Florence “Lori” Sitko (August 17, 1925 – Saturday, October 21, 2023) was a woman of reserve and kindness. She was a beloved wife, a devoted daughter, a caring mother, an affectionate “grandma,” “granny,” “gigi.”
Lori was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frances Feliss and William Feliss. She grew up in numerous Chicago neighborhoods along with her brother Bill and graduated from St. Casimir (Maria) High School. She met her “kind and handsome man,” Stanley Sitko, and they were happily married from 1949 till “Stan’s” death in 1995.
After some 10 years at home with her three daughters, “Chris,” “Cathy,” and “Suzy,” she enjoyed part-time secretarial work at car dealerships, forming new friendships and establishing pinochle partners. Lori and family lived in Evergreen Park next to her parents. After Stan’s death she moved to Oak Lawn near her daughter Sue’s family.
Lori loved playing cards and was most committed to the game of pinochle. Her daughters, and her grandchildren—Max, Lucy, and Ted, recall playing poker with the family from the time they were able to throw their pennies in the pot. Not at all an outdoors woman, she spent each day at her crosswords, her mystery books, and historical novels. She loved the family’s golden retrievers - Bella and Bella, always
sneaking morsels of food off her dinner plate for them. Lori could not resist travel, lobster, licorice, Marshall Fields, and discovering new restaurants with family and friends. She absolutely loved Chicago. Lori was very much a woman with style, who had a penchant for shoes, earmarked each Friday for the hair salon, and enjoyed the comfort of her muu muus.
Beyond all that, Lori was a devout Catholic, a tender-hearted soul who was beloved by her caregivers in the last six years of her life when she moved to Ohio to be near to her daughters Chris and Cathy.
She will be forever loved, missed, and remembered by her daughters; Christine, Catherine (Tim Traxler), and Suzan (Ted) Hoard; grandchildren, Max Traxler, Lucy (Tim) Gajos, Ted (Melinda) Hoard—great grandchildren, Emma & Callie Gajos.
