Kevin Casey, of Hometown, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 9th at the age of 68. Kevin was born on November 7th, 1954, to the late Jim and Marilyn Casey. He was the 4th of 6 children Maureen Pannaralla, Joan (Mike) Cellini, Jim Casey, Marilou Casey and Karen (Steve) Cichon.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cathy, children Kevin, Michelle (Kyle), Melissa (Dave), and Tim. Grandchildren Katie, Danny, Quin, Cal, Delaney, Mason, Shea, Archie, Wolf, Vivienne, and Mick. Sisters in law Pam and Linda, brother in law Roger (Nadine), his Foley brothers and sisters, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Kevin had three major loves of his life: his wife Cathy, his family, and the City of Hometown. Kevin and Cathy loved going out for breakfast before starting a busy day of spending time with their kids and grandkids. They were fiercely devoted to one another and stuck by each other’s sides, through thick and through thin for 47 years.
Watching his grandkids play sports was his favorite pastime. Of course, he always thought whichever grandkid was currently playing was the best on the team and needed more playing time. He was always quick with a coaching critique, as he coached every sport his kids ever played. Well except cheerleading, which he would argue was not a sport anyway. His grandkids will miss him playing basketball with them, his endless, playful teasing, and trying to get them on the trampoline, which is a core memory for every single one of them.
Kevin was a devoted public servant. He began his service as an alderman and went on to becoming Mayor in 2009. He went on to also become a member of the D124 School Board. Becoming Mayor of Hometown was one of his proudest achievements. He felt a pride in the city that was unmatched. His goal was always to keep Hometown a place where people would want to raise their families, which is why events such as Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and Breakfast/Pictures with Santa were his favorite events to plan each year.
Kevin’s presence, his sharp sense of humor, and endless devotion to public service will be greatly missed by many. Memories will be shared at Andrew J. McGann and Son Funeral Home, 10727 S Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60655 on Wednesday, December 14th from 2pm until 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, December 15th at Our Lady at St. Germain Parish located at 9711 S Kolin Ave, Oak Lawn, IL, at 10am. Interment will be private.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.andrewmcgann.com for the Casey family.
