Kathleen was born April 18th 1937 to Lawrence A Scharf and Catherine Cleary. She was one of 5 siblings an aunt and great aunt. She is survived by her brother Lawrence C Scharf, her sister Paula Adsit, nephew Sean Aplin, his wife Meaghan Aplin, and their daughter, Kathleen’s great niece, Julie Aplin. Her parents, brother, Patrick Scharf, sister, Angie Aplin, and brother-in-law Bill Aplin have all preceded her in death.
To be family and/or friend to Kathleen was a joy and a privilege. She was kind patient, thoughtful, selfless, and a wonderfully active listener. She made sure to not only tell, but to show those that she loved, just how much she loved them at every opportunity. Rarely did she meet a person she didn’t like. If she saw someone in need of help or counsel, even a complete stranger, she was always the first to lend an ear and share a few kind words of wisdom.
She graduated magna cum laude when achieving her Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green State University, OH. Kathleen went on to achieve a master’s degree in education from the University of Toledo, OH and continued her education with completing her Ph.D. from the Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. She began her career as a teacher and eventually became a clinical Psychologist for over 40 years. She devoted her life to helping others.
Kathleen was a cosmopolitan, a student of education, music, art, theatre, history, psychology, politics, and was able to provide a great deal of knowledge and insight about almost any topic. She was an avid reader and could always recommend the next great read in any genre. Her love of music and theatrical arts was enriched through being a season ticket holder to the Lyric Opera, and multiple concert series at the Chicago symphony center including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Jazz series. She loved to travel to new destinations around the world and attended the U.S. Figure skating Championships every year.
She was a bright shining light in this world and she will be greatly missed by those that know and love her. She lived a full and rewarding life and her light will continue to shine on forever in the minds and hearts of those she touched.
We Love you Kathy!
