My heart goes out to the family of the officer both family at home. I lnow what it's like to lose a memeber of Chicago Police Department. I had to say my goodbyes last month to a dear friend out of the 15th District (Austin). I may have encountered John at the 7 Eleven that I work at Northwest Highway and Sayre among other officers and fire fighters. I always pray for you all all day and everyday. John thank you for your dedicated years of service with protecting the people of Chicago for 19 years and trying to keep us safe from harm. God Bless you and your family. John was truly one of the good ones.  I’ll never forget how he told me what to do and where to go when I first visited Galena. He always cracked up with his many sayings in different languages might I add.  Not only did he have all the Spanish cuss words down pat, he said them with much flare! 
John & I knew each other since he first started in 011, as I did, & shared the same group of friends on 1st Watch.  I’m especially going to miss you calling me your “reina,” lol! May the lord have you in his blessed glory.  Te extraño carnal. 

I remember this was taken on my last day in 011 a couple of months ago. I wanted to get photos with everyone before I left. Wouldn't believe that this would be the last time we would see you. So energetic and full of life. I'm very sorry Johnny I wished I could have taken you up on that offer of going out for drinks on my last day. Loved what he did, he was a true Fillmore Ranger. Till we meet again brother. God bless.

I worked with John at the Hilton Chicago always kept in touch through out the years . A few years ago I moved into district #11 where I seen John again . First he scolded me for moving into that area :), he would check on my home consistently. Once I was on vacation and he kept an eye on my home . My neighbor called me and said “ hey the police is watering your flowers on your deck “.  Never would I have thought or expected him to do that . That’s just who John was , caring , funny , bad ass , loved life . RIP John . I was honored to have known you as my friend . 

I do not know your family personally  but I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you. My husband was a Chicago Police Officer for 30 years. As a citizen of Chicago, I want to thank your son for his service  to our city. I hope that it was a consolation  to you that your son was loved by so many.

Prayers for the family. I was proud to help train John at The Police Academy. True Hero and Patriot. He was always fun to be around and will be missed. He loved being  the CPD and I can still remember his smile and good nature. 💔🙏🇺🇸

Remember John-boy, "it's all bull-@$#& kid!" One of the first things I told you when JD trusted me enough to be the first person you worked with when you came to the watch. God, how I WISH it was this time! You were like a little brother to me, with me being the "old man" on the watch. Loved running into you on different occasions as the years went on because I knew without a doubt we'd be cracking up about something. Thanks for the laughs and thanks for the friendship! I met John a couple years ago when he honored our fallen officer through his selfless service to Brotherhood of the Fallen. Having been from Chicago myself, it was nice to talk to a northern brother. We kept in touch, and I found him to be a genuine and likable guy. I am sorry to the McKenna family, and all his brothers and sisters of the CPD.

Johnny Mac was one of my closest friends and truly one of the funniest people I have ever met.   Words cannot describe how I feel.  The world lost a wonderful person and I am completely heartbroken.
