James “Jim” Crowley, 59, beloved son of Zita C. and the late James B. Crowley; adored brother of Beth (Jerry) Carter; proud uncle to Jack, Alexa, Joseph and Isabella Carter and loving friend to his 117th Place family. Jim passed away on August 22, 2024 due to injuries he sustained while fulfilling his life-long dream as a Chicago Police Officer in the line of duty on September 4, 1987. Jim attended Mount Carmel High School (Class of 1983) and embodied the Mount Carmel creed of living with zeal for God, for life, and for learning. Upon graduating, Jim attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and joined the Chicago Police Department in 1986, proudly wearing Star 4169. Jim suffered a catastrophic brain injury and was unable to walk after the accident, but he maintained his ardent work ethic and amazing sense of humor throughout his life. Jim lived in a Texas group home for the last 23 years where he received loving and compassionate care. Jim’s sister Beth was a constant source of comfort, love and support to Jim and was his devoted advocate throughout the last 37 years.
A Visitation for Jim will take place Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Rd. Chicago, IL 60655. Funeral to follow on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 AM at St. Christina Catholic Church, 3342 W. 111th St. Chicago, IL 60655. Committal Service to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St. Alsip, IL 60803.
