She was born August 18, 1935, in Madrid, Spain, the daughter of Eugenio and Facunda.
Isabel married Julio César García on February 16, 1957, in Madrid, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1989.
A long adventure there followed which included moving to Colombia, her husband's homeland, and finally settling in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood, which she called home for 47 years.
Isabel retired from the University of Chicago in 2004, where for over 30 years she pursued a career in administration and grants management in several research centers devoted to demographics and population studies.
She was beloved mother of Mireya (d. 2007) (Ali) Elmi, Jaime (Lisa) García, Yolanda (William) Butts and Charo García (Oscar Monarrez); loving grandmother of Ian, Elyse, Sheida, Patrick, Roxy, Jimmy, César and Julian; fond great grandmother of Enzo.
A lively, caring and loving soul, she will be missed by many.
A visitation for Isabel will be held Thursday, August 24th, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60625. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 25th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at St Ita's Church, 5500 Broadway Street, Chicago, Illinois 60640. Interment will be immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, Illinois
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Autism Society of America would be greatly appreciated
