With deep sadness, we share the news that George Kaminski of Indian Head Park passed away on March 31st, 2024 at age 74. George was born in 1949 in Brighton, England and emigrated to the United States with his parents and sister Barbara in 1952. He always maintained a strong affinity for his birthplace and even had a plaque by his front door naming his home Brighton House. George graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Chicago in 1967. He so appreciated the education he received there and continued to support the school and its students throughout his life. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois-Chicago and then served his country as a member of the Illinois National Guard. Rather than pursuing a career in science, George went into banking and in his early 30’s, was named as the President of the State Bank of Countryside, the youngest bank president in the state. He left banking to become an entrepreneur and for many years ran a successful printing and signage company, TurnKey Communications. After selling that business and until his death, George worked as an analyst for the U.S. Department of Labor.
Throughout his life, George had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and could converse with knowledge on any topic. He was passionate about travel, cooking, baking, his many birds and books, books, books! George was fortunate to have many lifelong friendships but throughout his life, he easily made friends with all he met. He had a great sense of humor and if you are reading this, then you will remember the many times he made you laugh.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Mieczyslaw and Zofia Kaminski. He is survived by his sisters, Barbara (Dennis) Procop and Yvonne Kaminski, his nephew Mark (Jill) Procop, his niece Kristi (Matt) Kohut, great nephews Owen Kohut and Max Procop and his four-legged nephew Dexter.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for George that will be held on Sunday, April 21st, 2024 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 22nd, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 7263 West Talcott, Chicago, Illinois, followed by a brief service at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 8600 North Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, Illinois.
