She took a degree in history at Cornell College and later attended law school at De Paul University, where she graduated with distinction. She joined the Environmental Protection Agency where she was able to apply her academic abilities, deeply held principles, and love for the environment. In 1987 she became part of the legal office's supervisory team, guiding other lawyers along their respective paths. She particularly enjoyed this aspect of supervision, ensuring the next generation would have the skills to continue the EPA's vital work.
For many years Catherine relished holidays with her sister and extended family on remote Lasqueti Island, British Columbia, where she improved the environment by pulling weeds in the garden. The family devised creative group projects such as a very local newspaper and original plays.
She loved cats and shared her life with Willie, Mewlissa, Java and Arthur.
Catherine will be missed by her sister Marti Wendt, nephews David Wackerlin and Sarah Kolbuc, Hollis Linschoten and Katrina Barclay, grand-nephew Campbell Wackerlin and grand-niece Eden Wackerlin.
She was predeceased by her parents Wendell and Loretta Miller Wendt of Newton.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5 from 12 pm - 1 pm, with a celebration of Catherine's life to start at 1 pm and then the visitation will pick back up again from 2 pm - 3 pm all at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60625.
