Bruce was a super nice guy!  A man of great Catholic faith, wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend!  Rejoice in heaven with Jesus Christ our Savior🙏🏼♥️

Thinking of the family at barely a year past Bruce's passing. I still miss him greatly.  I can only imagine how difficult it is for the family and close friends. I only knew him through work for the last 10 years or so and seeing him at SQURTS Meetings. His larger than life legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his teachings.

It is at moments like this that you realize how quickly time passes... the people you meet, the time spent together, and the memories created... they truly last a lifetime... whether a discussion over three decades ago about what type of stereo system would sound best in their home, deciding who was going to bring the mini grill for our next Bears tailgate party to designing test plans for the next seismic qualification of the newest, latest and greatest snubber, Bruce truly listened to other human beings, could laugh and joke with the best and found love and passion in most everything he did. While we here on earth lost a wonderful human being, Heaven gained a wonderful soul. Bye for now Bruce. 

Bruce was a great colleague and friend. We've known each other for many, many years, always seeming to circle back into each other's spheres. That's the nature of the nuclear power business - much like family, small and tight-knit at times. Bruce had a quick wit, but was also a great sport when he got it turned back on him. One of my lasting memories of Bruce was probably one of his toughest business trips - to Florida of all places. He came down with a bad case of the yucks, but persevered as best he could. But he knew his limits and when to ask for help, and I was happy to help him in my own little way.

Will miss you greatly Bruce. Until we meet again ...

Dear Angie ~
Thank  you for that phone call years ago that reconnected us to Bruce. My children found their long lost brother and Bruce found his other siblings. 
Would that we all had more time with Bruce - at least one more family reunion. We just didn’t know he would go so soon. 
My strongest memories are from OBX - Bruce on the sofa which served as the cousin’s couch or the sibling sofa or as a vehicle for Bruce to hold assorted little people on his lap. 
Our love goes out to you, your beautiful children and their beautiful families. Also to Sue, Earl, the other siblings and relatives that radiate out to the world all those attributes that define a close knit family. 
We are thankful of the time we had with him.  May his loving nature continue to bless us all.

Bruce was my brother from my father's first marriage (to Alice Anne). When we met for the first time in 2005, he threw his arms around me and said, "Baby Sis !!!" . This was what he called me thereafter. I felt like I had found a piece of my heart that had been missing.

He welcomed all of our little  Larom clan into his big, extended family. We have wonderful memories of weddings, kids' christenings, Bruce's  60'th birthday party, and our magical family reunion at The Outer Banks.

He was one of the best people I've ever known. I will miss him tremendously.

When I first moved to Chicago, Bruce introduced me to so many aspects of Chicagoland... I will always smile when I remember going to Bears games with Bruce... . including the south lot of soldier Field, where we would tailgate and laugh our tails off before going up into the stands where we would freeze them off as well.  But in addition  to all the laughs, I know our heartfelt talks helped me grow into being a better person. Rest in Peace, Bruiser...

We had the chance to meet Bruce in France during a seismic walkdown in a nuclear powerstation in Normandy. 
Bruce was passionated about his job and it was a pleasure to work with him. We shared a brief slice of life and will remember his smile and good mood.

Bruce was a great engineer and an even better man. When my mother died some years ago, Bruce and his charming wife Angie brought a feast of Mexican food out to my parents’ home in Libertyville so we wouldn’t have to worry about food. That is a drive of about two hours round trip. He didn’t call to ask if we wanted it or to even let us know he was coming. He just did it. That is an act of kindness I will never forget.

When I think of Bruce, his warm and inclusive nature are the first things that come to mind.  I have very fond memories of big family Christmases spent together.  Lots of laughs and games.  Bruce's  genuine love of family was palpable.  I will miss his kind and warm spirit that enriched every gathering.

I worked with Bruce at Prairie Island several years ago now.   He was highly intellectual, professional , and great to work with.  What a sad loss it is.  Prayers for his family.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Bruce for  30+ years.  We’ve  vacationed with our spouses, were  business partners on real estate, and most importantly he allowed our families to spend many holidays together.  We were not related by blood, but shared a common friendship bond that allowed our families to unite!  We will miss you here, but know that you are always in our ♥️.

Bruce loved planning vacations. - He spearheaded our 3 huges Family Union/Reunion trips OBX 2014, KY 2016 & OBX 2018 blending together nuclear family with cousins, aunts, uncles, grandkids, newly met brothers and sisters. Four generation gatherings. Lots of jokes, playing, ribbing, laughing, cooking & eating, fishing, mini-golf, campfires, poker games filled with deep caring and love.

Bruce was a valued employee of Jensen Hughes and was one of those folks that was friendly and kind to everyone.  He will be missed as someone who knew the nuclear industry inside and out.  But he will also be missed as the person who said 'how are you' to people in the kitchen at the JH Fulton Office and the last few years on Teams.  Basically, he will be missed! 

Angie, We want you to know that we are holding you, Earl Sr., Susan, Kay, Lisa, Chris, Ebe, Earl Jr., Chelly, the grandkids and the rest of the family in our thoughts and a loving hug. We pray that your many fond memories of Bruce help sustain the family during this difficult time. Bruce had the biggest heart and such a loving, fun personality.

When meeting Bruce, one was always greeted with a smile, bright, sparkling eyes and a soft voice. There is a feeling that he was always glad to see you; a personal welcome. He had a way of making one feel like you’ve  known each other forever. He had such an obvious love and joy for his family and expressed a willingness to share that love and joy with others. We’re so glad and grateful that we had that lovely family reunion time together. It was an honor and a joy to know Bruce….our time was too short. He will be dearly missed.

Bruce, my friend, husband and one of a kind father.  I  have moments, I still don't want to believe he isn't here.  Bruce was our 'go to' for the best planned vacations, he worked and played hard.  I am so grateful, he photographed our life over the years.  Our sons Christopher and Earl kept him young.  From Halloween haunted houses to attending Hawk championships games.  Bruce was a father-like figure to many of our sons friends.  They chatted,played and found it easy to share life, without fear of judgment. I realize, Bruce was bigger than life in the industry he loved.  May persons who were under his guidance, and ever have questions.  Ask yourself "What would Bruce do".  Covid took him from us, but blessed us with 2 years of lockdown.  Travel stopped and worked from home.   These 2 years allowed us to spend precious time with our grandchildren.  Bruce, I  can't wait to see you again.

 Mi gran pésame, my condolences, to Angie, Chris, Earl and the entire family. What can I say about Bruce that no one knows!  All I can say is that he will be missed. Too young, smart, funny and full of stories.

He was my favorite Santa at St. Aloysius.  He would make me laugh when I told him what I wanted for Christmas, 😂.

I am sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. I knew him only very casually, but others I knew well spoke very highly of Bruce. Not a bad word came regarding Bruce and is work or dealings with others. Will pray for the repose of his soul.



My son, Bruce, was one of the kindest, gentlest and most compassionate people I have ever known.   His biological mother, Alice Anne, was my dear friend and colleague so I knew Bruce as a teenager, long before his mother died and his father, Earl, and I married in 1980.   Back in the 70s, Bruce would join the adults in games on the floor in the small trailer in which they were all living at the time.  Often, on weekends he would babysit for my two young children, Lisa and Erik.  Holidays were often shared.  Blending our families has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.  Bruce and Kay became my second son and  second daughter.  We are family!  And our fortunes increased exponentially with the addition of Angie, Chris and Earl and the whole Chicago extended family.  Bruce, we will always miss you and cherish the gift that was your life.

I am so sorry and saddened to hear about Bruce. He and I were colleagues for a short time at Sargent & Lundy 40 years ago working on various Lasalle Nuclear Station projects. He was getting into the seismic profile of things back then. As I remember him, he was a joyful and caring guy and from the pictures he did not gain or lose any of his Santa physique which I can't say the same for many of us. I am very proud to have worked with Bruce and am sure heaven has welcomed him to the eternal seismic shake table team.

Bruce had such a loving and kind heart.  He loved his family and spending time with all of us, and was the catalyst for the family reunions we had.  I will always remember those times with Bruce and all the family.  I will forever be grateful to Bruce for the loving spirit he had that brought us all together.

Bruce was a dear friend and a respected collegue. I met Bruce about 15 years ago at an EPRI meeting. We were instant friends. At dinner he told me his rodeo story. I think he really wanted to share this story with me because I am southern and it was a true tale (I think) about how some southern boys treated him as a teen. I laughed until I almost hyperventilated when he said in the best southern voice that he could "where you from, boy?".  Bruce and I had many more laughs that evening and every other time that we came together for industry meetings or trainings, etc.  I would tease him endlessly and he was a good sport about it and seemed to enjoy the ribbing. He was really like a big brother to me.  

Beyond the laughs, when I had a difficult work problem and I wanted someone to bounce my approach off of, my first go-to person was Bruce. If I was way off base, he would tell me. I always appreciated his forthright manner. 

Knowing Bruce has made my life better. I will miss him dearly.

On behalf of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), we wish to convey our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Bruce Lory and to provide some perspective of Bruce’s impact on the nuclear industry and EPRI.  
 
Not only did Bruce’s work over the span of his career significantly benefit his employers, it also made a lasting impact on the global nuclear industry. Bruce was the primary author and creator of the EPRI Fundamentals of Equipment Seismic Qualification course, which teaches both early career and experienced engineers how to ensure that equipment used in nuclear power plants will withstand earthquakes and continue keeping the plants safe.  Bruce was also the instructor of the course, teaching the course over 30 times in the last ten years to approximately 500 students.  These students are now spread throughout the globe and rely on Bruce’s guidance as they focus on their plants’ safety.  The student feedback from the course was incredibly positive, remarking highly on Bruce’s knowledge and expertise in the field, as well as his humor and humility.
 
Those of us at EPRI who knew Bruce well regarded him as a superstar in his field and as a person, and we considered him a great friend. Bruce will be greatly missed by EPRI and the nuclear industry and you can be extremely proud of his many contributions.
