John was born in Yorkshire, England to Ronald and Joan (Anderson) on April 6, 1943. He moved to Cleveland with his family in 1957 and later graduated from Cleveland State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1966, he married Bonnie (Haytas), the love of his life. They moved to Chardon and raised three children: Dan (Kelly) of Newbury, Kevin (Kalie) of Ellicott City Maryland, and Donna (Russell) Dean of Kent.
Their home was full of warmth and laughter. He loved to golf with Bonnie and their friends, and go on vacations, especially to England and Myrtle Beach. John was also a faithful member of Riverview Church in Novelty for 52 years and served in many roles, including custodian and Sunday school teacher.
John was known by his coworkers as a hardworking and innovative engineer. He worked for Rotor Tool Motor Company and Stanley Assembly Technologies where he designed power tools for automobile factories, obtaining many patents from his designs. Even though he had many professional accomplishments, he was most proud of the people he could help and the relationships he built during his career. Shortly after retiring, John became a Papa to Dan and Kelly’s twin girls, Mackenzie and Kaylee. Since the girls were 2 months old, John spent nearly every day helping to care for them with joy and love. He adored his time with them and watching them grow into young women. John was also a warm and silly Papa for Kevin and Kalie’s children, Nathaniel, Andrew and Henry. He relished being the M.C. for family gatherings, telling corny jokes, and singing silly songs. Preceding John in death are his sister Judith Evans and his parents. Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren and brother Phillip. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Riverview Church, 13968 Chillicothe Rd, Novelty on Friday September 20 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to thecitymission.org or truefreedomministries.com.
