He was the son of the late Warren and Alphenia Key and was preceded in death by his brother, Terrell Key.
Tom was a 1958 graduate of Ooltewah High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, in history, from Middle Tennessee State University. He was a history teacher at Harrison Bay Vocational Center, for many years, prior to retiring. He was an avid reader and a lifelong UT Vols football fan. Prior to his death, he was found watching the game and cheering them on from his bed in the hospital.
He was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Jo Anna Largen and Bill, of Mobile, AL, sister-in-law, Judy Key, of Cookeville, TN, four nephews, Gregg Key, of Lebanon, TN, Chris Key, of Elgin, SC, Matt Largen, of Hattiesburg, MS, Tim Largen, of Madison, MS, and niece, Tammy Key, of Cookeville, TN.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm., Friday, November 17, 2023, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Colloms officiating. Burial will follow in Ooltewah Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, Friday, November 17, 2023, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ooltewah Baptist Church, 5514 Main Street, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
